The central theme of the Bible is God's love for you and for all people. This love was revealed when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world as a human being, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. Because Christ died, your sins can be forgiven, and because He conquered death, you can have eternal life. You can know for sure what will happen when you die. Because of Christ, you can be forgiven and live forever in right relationship to God.
But this gift of forgiveness and eternal life cannot be yours unless you willingly accept it. God requires an individual response from you. The following verses from the Bible show the ABCs of your part in this process:
- Admitting. We all do things that we know are wrong. And that's why we feel disconnected from God-because God is holy and good, and we are not. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." When we recognize our need for God and our failure at being "good enough," we are on the path to a right relationship with God.
- Believing. You do not have to work for God's free gift of forgiveness and new life. All you have to do is joyfully receive it. Believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ died for you! In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Believing in Jesus in the only way to a right relationship with God.
- Confessing. Jesus Christ wants to have a personal relationship with you. Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Jesus Christ is standing at the door of your heart. Confess that He is Lord and invite Him in. Then you will be in right relationship with God.
